There’s a pig surfing !
That’s a black pig surfing I said to my husband, and then instantly wondered if I had gone mad! We were out in the waters off Waikiki Beach, mingling again amongst the surfers, board riders, outriggers, snorkellers and swimmers …..and today also a dog and a pig!
I wasn’t seeing things. Apparently we had struck hawaiian gold today. Kama, the surfing pig, who hails from Sandy Beach was making an appearance at Waikiki. He was joined by a dog, clearly good mates, surfing close to each other at times. We even saw the dog even giving Kama’s owner Kai a high five as he passed him on a wave. If you watch closely on the video you will see this.
Kama the pig was adopted by a family when he happened upon their camping site as a piglet. The rest of the story is now part of O’ahu legend. The piglet fell into the pool one day, his owner Kai Holt, decided to take him surfing, and now he surfs like a pro. He’s famous, he’s sponsored and he’s very ,very cool.
What I also think is cool is that his owner brings him to the public beaches regularly and when he does so, he doesn’t adopt the personality of a celebrity, but rather celebrates his bond with his pig with those around him who clamber to get a good view of this incredible surfing pig.
The pig and dog surfed for well over an hour, making many of us seem like absolute surfing amateurs.
Let me know if you’ve seen Kama the surfing pig!
