I’ve never been a watch kind of person although I’ve always worn one. My watch wearing days go right back to my 12th birthday. My father had bought me a watch off a friend he had on the Korean sugar ships that used to travel to my home city.
From a fashion perspective, I’ve always been happy to just upgrade every now and then, choosing something that is stylish yet not necessarily on trend.
JORD watches kindly gave me one of their range to try. I’ve had such fun with it that I’m sure they may have influenced a change to my usual process!
Here’s where JORD watches set themselves apart from many of the mainstream watches you will find. They are a unique watch being made almost entirely from wood. And, it’s lightweight wood, so you barely know you are wearing it.
I chose a watch from the JORD Frankie women’s watch series.
The band and body of the watch are made from the dark sandalwood and the crystal face has striking gold numbers and hands, making it incredibly easy to tell the time at a glance. The watch is powered by Swiss componentry. Put simply, it is the complete opposite to the style I would usually choose.
It’s also quite large on my small wrist when compared to my usual petite watch.
However, I was surprised at how quickly none of that made any difference. I’ve now been wearing this watch constantly and I really do like it.
It is very easy to put on. With a stainless steel buckle and push buttons on either side, putting the watch on and taking it off can be done easily with one hand. Once on, it is very secure.
Taking it for a test run
I decided to test the watch on my current trip to Vietnam. My primary reason for doing so is that when I travel, I leave my usual jewellery behind. This includes my gold watch. Travelling with the JORD watch means I still get to have a watch on (which I like having) without drawing undue attention by having bling on my wrist.
You see, whilst the JORD watch is stylish, the wood serves to tone it down, meaning that it looks great on your wrist, but doesn’t stand out. I think this is one of the best features for me and I know I will continue to wear this watch when I travel.
Another great bonus for travelling is that you can wear it through security screening at the airports! It doesn’t set off the alarms. This is a major plus for me!
Often times the outer packaging of products can be underwhelming. In keeping with their stylish designs, the JORD watch comes in a stunning box that you can use to store it in at home.
It’s also very sturdy to survive the shipping process, with mine arriving from the US in perfect condition.
Unfortunately I couldn’t take this box with me to keep it protected whilst I was travelling as it is too large and heavy. Perhaps a small soft travel bag would also be a good idea for it.
I have really sensitive skin, which is why I usually only wear gold watches. However, these watches are great for such sensitivities, with only natural woods and oils being used. I’ve been wearing this watch in high humidity and my skin hasn’t been affected at all.
Ordering your watch online
The JORD team have a great process for ordering these watches online to ensure you get a perfect fit. A “ruler” can be printed from their site and then used to measure the wrist of the intended wearer.
I thought this was absolutely fabulous. When the watch arrived, it fit my wrist perfectly.
Warning – This is probably the most crucial part of the whole process. If you don’t follow their instructions and measure your watch properly it won’t fit you when it arrives in the mail. The great thing is that they do include some extra links and pins if you need to increase the size. Alternatively you could take it to a watchmaker.
Looking after your wood watch
The watch is hand finished and pre-treated with oil which gives it a nice sheen but also protects it from the elements. Because the watch is made from natural wood, it is also necessary to keep it protected as much as possible from extreme temperatures when storing. ie high humidity can cause the wood to swell, which excessive cold can cause shrinkage.
You’re sure to find a watch that suits your style and lifestyle, with a variety of sizes, shapes and colours (from a variety of different wood) to choose from. Prices are all in US dollars and can be shipped anywhere in the world.
I think this statement on JORD’s website sums up my experience with this watch perfectly. It also sounds like it could have been written for me.
“We make our watches for people who don’t just have somewhere to be, they have somewhere to go.”
Perhaps that’s why I know my JORD watch and I are going to become great friends.
This post was sponsored by JORD Wood Watches, but like anything I do, my opinions are always my own.
