Get the best of all worlds at Fusion Maia Da Nang Resort : Vietnam

The inside tip – where to stay in Da Nang

Fusion Maia Da Nang is one of those true surprises.  With the coastline of Da Nang now reasonably saturated with resorts and hotels, it’s hard to imagine that this area was undeveloped only a decade or so ago.

In fact, Fusion Maia Da Nang is only six years old.  During this time, it has built a name for itself as being a relaxing retreat.  It was Asia’s first resort to provide daily spa treatments in an all-inclusive room rate.

The villas

One bedroom pool villas make up the majority of the accommodation options at the resort.  In addition, there are two bedroom spa villas and the grand three bedroom, ocean facing beach villas.  All villas boast their own private pool.

We stayed in a one bedroom villa, and with it’s L-shaped layout around the pool, there was more than enough room for two people to be very comfortable here.

As part of the pre check-in process, I was able to choose fresh fruits, and a variety of coffee and tea for our room.  These choices are inter-changeable with such things as all coffee, all tea, special tea, welcome chocolates and healthy treats.

There’s a well-stocked minibar.  The thing I really love is that the minibar prices are exactly the same as if you were sitting in the bar.  It’s actually a really nice feature that I noticed about all of the Vietnamese hotels.  I’m used to hotels in my country adding quite a hefty margin to mini bar products.  It’s nice to grab a cold beer out of the fridge and jump in the pool without feeling as though the hotel is price gouging.

Along with some groovy rattan flip flops, the room is also equipped with an umbrella, shoe shine and a bag.  I found the bag quite useful for taking things to the spa, but it can also be used for shopping in nearby Hoi An.

Whilst this villa is called a one-bedroom, it is actually all open plan.  However, the bedroom and adjoining bathroom are separated (by space) from the lounge area.  If privacy is important to you, then a curtain may be arranged to hang between the bedroom and the bathroom.

Privacy has been thoughtfully considered here.  The configuration of the rooms, entry areas, private gardens and walls mean that this villa is your sanctuary.

The bedroom

A king size, four poster bed is the centrepiece of this villa.  Timber furniture and cabinetry complement the Fusion Maia colours of lilac, purple and cream.

Lighting always seems to be a bug bear of mine.  There just never seems to be enough to read or work with.  Here, there are overhead lights for general lighting, and directional lights around the bed area for reading.  They are also accessible when lying in bed, meaning you don’t have to go searching for them when you are sleepy.

Conversely, power points are a little harder to come by, or are difficult to put international adapters in them.  By the time you add a device to an adapter, it becomes top heavy and they simply won’t stay in the socket.

A large screen tv has been built into the dividing wall between the bedroom and the bathroom.  Thinking of guests’ usability, it swivels so that you can watch it from the bath tub, or the bedroom.

The lounge

This area is spacious, comfy and has a view of the pool.  Whilst the villa is fully air conditioned, we loved having the sliding doors open to let in the ocean breezes and sounds.  Unfortunately this is not really possible in the evening due to the potential for a mosquito invasion.  If you do find you’ve inadvertently left the door open a little too long, an electric mosquito zapper (provided) will help you out.

Work

Despite being in this restful environment, if you do have work to do then a desk is provided.  The price you pay for it being unobtrusive in the villa is that it’s a little squeezy to get in and out of.

Wifi is complimentary and speed in the room is very good.  Ipods may be requested during your pre-checkin.  They come loaded with their own playlists.  Alternatively you can plug your own in to the existing speakers.

The bathroom

I love a bathroom with a view.  Who wouldn’t love to take a shower in the fully glassed in shower cubicle, or sit in one of the deepest tubs I have ever seen, whilst checking out this view?  Once again, your privacy is catered for with optional blinds.  Personally, there was no way I was going to have them drawn.

The shower includes an overhead rainshower and a handheld hose.  There is also a seat in here.  They really do everything to make you feel relaxed.  Is it any wonder I didn’t want to leave?

Double vanities include his and hers toiletries, complimentary water (four bottles), various other personal amenities and a hairdryer.

Note: Toiletries may be alternated depending on who you are staying with – ie his/hers, both hers, both his etc.  It’s another way your stay can be totally personalised.

The pool

Let’s face it.  It’s very special having your own pool.  I might be guilty of going from the pool to the massive tub after a spa!  Now doesn’t that just sound over indulgent!

With the sea breezes, it’s just as nice to sit outside on the outdoor furniture provided.

The spa is included

When you book a villa here at Fusion Maia Da Nang, two spa treatments per person, per day is included.  Booking can be made for your first visit on the day of your check-in before you arrive, ensuring you get a spot.  Spa treatments can also be taken on the day of checkout, up until 12 noon (checkout time).  I’ll be telling you more about the spa options in a later article.

Why come to Da Nang ?

Da Nang doesn’t have a long standing reputation as being a place of interest to tourists.  However, that is starting to change.  The city itself doesn’t have a huge number of attractions to speak of (yet) but it does have the Da Nang International Airport, which is bringing more and more visitors to this region.

From Da Nang you can easily visit Hoi An and Marble Mountain.  There are also two international standard golf courses nearby.    Or, if you just need time to rejuvenate, then staying at Fusion Maia for the entirety of your stay would be great medicine.

When to come

Da Nang, in Central Vietnam has a wet season and a monsoon season, meaning it’s not at it’s best all year.  If bright sunshine and less rain is what you crave, then it would be best to come around April – August.  We visited in November, so it was a little grey but that didn’t stop us enjoying ourselves and making the most of all the resort had to offer.

How to get here

Fusion Maia Da Nang is approximately 15 minutes from Da Nang International Airport.  Free shuttle buses operate several times a time to Hoi An.  Private tours and excursions can also be arranged in consultation with the resort.

If you are planning where to stay in Da Nang be sure to check it out.
